Dr. Eunjoo Jung

I have spent decades in child development and education, 25 of them as a university professor. What has shaped my work most is not the titles or the publications. It is the years spent working directly with children, parents, and educators, trying to understand what is actually happening beneath the behavior.

Child development, early childhood education, educational psychology, parenting, learning theory, and research methods were among the courses I taught across undergraduate and graduate programs. Beyond the classroom, I spent years training early childhood and elementary educators, future teachers and those already in the classroom, going into real settings together where we researched, experimented, and reflected on what actually works. The teachers I trained went on to work with thousands of children.

Teaching at Syracuse University

Throughout my career I worked in and oversaw multiple university laboratory schools, settings where research meets real children and real families. These were not observations from a distance. I worked directly with children and parents, consulting on what was really driving behavior and helping families find a clearer way forward. That direct, repeated engagement across different schools and communities over many years is what grounded everything else I did.

At Syracuse University, where I spent 17 years, I served as Department Chair, Graduate Program Director, Undergraduate Program Director, and Early Childhood Program Coordinator, at the center of how child development research was shaped, taught, and applied across classrooms, schools, and families. I also developed early childhood programs and prepared specialists to interpret children's behavior, learning patterns, and emotional responses within both home and school contexts.

I have authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and published a book in my field, with research featured in Syracuse University Magazine. I have presented at over 100 national and international conferences on children's learning, adjustment, and developmental systems.
The inspiration behind BrightEugene

BrightEugene: The Story

The name BrightEugene is built around my granddaughter's middle name, Eugene. She is the reason this work feels personal, and the reminder of why getting it right matters.

The work itself began much earlier, as a doctoral project designed to help parents interpret children's development more accurately rather than responding only to surface behavior. Then life expanded. I taught, led programs, trained educators, published research, and raised three children who are now thriving in their own professional lives. The original idea was set aside as other responsibilities took priority.

Then life called me in a different direction. I chose family, and with that, a new chapter began. Now, after decades of professional and personal experience, I am returning to that original vision with greater clarity. This work builds on everything, the research, the leadership, the years in classrooms and lab schools, working directly with families and children, and my own experience as a parent.

Direct Guidance for Your Family

Everything I have learned, in classrooms, lab schools, research, and as a parent myself, I now bring directly to families. If you are trying to understand your child's behavior and find a clearer path forward, I would be glad to work with you.
